It is standard practice in teaching mathematicians to tell them to consider the problem both backwards and forwards. In life, not so much. This is a good point to consider.

Spending more time fantasizing about success is linked to not succeeding, so perhaps we could stand to spend more time dwelling on the negative possibilities. It can be depressing, however.
